Our founder and lead advocate, Kimberly Jordan, M.Ed., is not only an advocate but also a parent of a child with a disability and a former special education teacher. She holds a bachelors degree in elementary education and a masters degree in special education focusing on applied behavior analysis and legal issues in special education. She has taught in full inclusion, closed classroom and alternative educational settings. This unique combination of experience provides us with the ability to see situations from a multitude of perspectives in order to ensure we are providing our clients with the best support possible.
To guide and assist families in becoming more effective members of their students educational team, as well as ensuring their student has access to the appropriate supports and services needed to achieve a successful educational experience and maximize their potential.
An education advocate will support your goals, help you to prepare, advise on the best next steps, and participate in your child’s IEP or 504 meeting. They will also assist with mediation, resolution hearings, and/or filing a complaint. When there is a discrepancy in what the parent sees and what the school sees, the advocate can observe the student in his/her home and/or school environment in order to provide clarification. They may also provide referrals and resources to help you better understand your child’s needs.
